  • What is a DVR?

A DVR or Digital Video Recorder is the recording device used for an analogue CCTV system. It contains a hard drive and is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable connected to your router.

Some DVRs also provide power for the CCTV cameras

  • What is a NVR?

A NVR or Network Video Recorder is a recording device which is used for IP (Digital) CCTV systems. The NVR contains a hard drive which is used to store the images. Some NVRs also power and control the camera directly.

It is connected to the camera using Ethernet cables and can be situated anywhere on the computer network or as a stand alone recorder. NVR security camera systems incorporate the newest technology to provide an enhanced, feature-rich security system. Also known as POE security camera systems, NVR based systems are more flexible and complex than DVR systems.

  • Do I need an internet connection?

Yes and No. If the CCTV system is to be monitored locally or is just going to monitor and area for viewing locally at a later date then no internet connection is required.

If you want to monito the images on a phone, tablet or PC then and internet connection is required

  • What size of hard drive do I need

The hard drive size is base on a number of factors such number of camera, duration of historical recording, recording quality, etc. When designing a system for you we will make recommendations to the size of hard drive you require.

  • Do CCTV cameras work at night?

All CCTV camera work at night how ever the image quality and distance you can see at night is affected by a number of factors including the camera model. When designing CCTV system we will make recommendations based on your requirements.

  • Do my out side lights need to be on permanently for the camera to work at night?

Lighting only needs to be on only if it acts as a deterrent in itself. Energy efficient LED lighting significantly reduces the cost of permanently illuminating dark areas.

This cable is commonly connected using punch-down blocks and modular connectors. Most Category 5 cables are unshielded.

  • I have a remote building can I install a CCTV camera?

    Yes.

    We have two options.

1 - install a wireless bridge to another location where an internet link already exists. This can be up to 10 km if line of site exists.

2 - Or we can install a 4G modem that uses the mobile phone network. This does incur additional monthly data charges, but is the ideal solution where a line of sight link cant be installed.
